About
As editor of Quarter Horse News for 28 years, I wrote a lot of articles about the event of cutting, as well as the players. I am no longer employed by Quarter Horse News, but I would like to continue to keep the people of the industry informed about current “happenings” in the industry on this website with the help of you, the readers. Please post your comments to each article.

These comments and perspective have been promulgated by the letter to you by Craig Morris with his views and more recently by NCHA nominating Brady Bowen as a vice presidential candidate.
It is well past the time that the “majority” of NCHA members stand up and let their thoughts be known.
I have been members of NCHA since the early 80,s and have literally spent $100,000’s of thousands of dollars on this “so-called” sport. I have had horses with and supported some of the top name trainers in the industry.
Prior to and during the time I have been involved with NCHA, I have had horses in other Associations and Show formats.
I am absolutely convinced that NCHA is one of the few - if not the only organization where the “inmates” run the “prison”!!!
What other horse association or organization allows or permits so - called “trainers” to control the affairs of the association?
Suffice it to say - NCHA is a corrupt and out of control arganization that was the brainchild of a few influential trainers some 40 - 50 years ago and has continued in this format to the present day. Owners, breeders and “non-pros” have been subjugated into believing that their only hope of ever hitting it big in the cutting horse industry is to rely on “their” trainers.
Furthermore, what other organization permits ex-presidents to still sit on committees and have undue influence after they have had their term in office? NCHA has ex-presidents still on committees 20 years after they were “president” Isn’t it time that new blood and new ideas were permitted to direct and influence the direction of NCHA?
Trainers - huh!! Most of these -not all - “so-called” trainers started out as stable hands, high school drop outs and are hired help “. Some are very talented and competent. However most are wannabees !They can not or could not run a major business . They run through horses and our money like it is an unending commodity. Most have never owned a great horse and even fewer have ever bred a great horse. Asking most trainers for advice on how to breed a good cutting horse - or which stud to use on a specific mare - would be like asking an elementary student an advanced question on calculus!
I as many other “non-pro” members of NCHA have stood by silently for many years and let things go along as usuall - afraid to ruffle any feathers and to “pay our so called dues”. However, we cannot remain silent any longer. The recent blatant manipulation of the election process and the stonewalling of NCHA to release association records and information to the court ordered request made by Paula Gaughn and Dean Sanders cannot go unchallenged.
What could possibly be so secretive or damning - that we as members of NCHA can not be aware of ???
Anyway, I have a lot more comments to make and these will be made over the next few months.
Thankfully, there is an outlet like “All About Cutting” for people like us to vent our frustrations. Certainly, “The Chatter” is not about to publish these comments or address them.
